Hope and a Little Bird -
Hoping all of you stay well during this critical time in our country and around the world.
I thought of this poem by Emily Dickinson comparing hope to a strong-willed bird that metaphorically lives within our soul and still sings its song in difficult times. The power of hope requires little of us in hard times, and never asks for anything in return.
Please take good care, my friends.
“Hope” is the Thing with Feathers -
“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -
And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -
I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.
