The Singer's Stone - Carnelian

Lately the blog writing has been focused on interesting facts about gems in their birth month. Amethyst is the birthstone for February, but while creating a necklace of carnelian gems and delving into the stone's properties, I discovered that carnelian is considered the “Singer’s Stone” as well as the “Artist’s Stone”. There was an immediate connection with the reddish rusty orange gem, almost like an “a ha moment”. Interestingly, carnelians are said to have the energy to ward off creative blocks, which was much needed during a post-holiday slump.

Ah, the “Singer’s Stone”! Many of you may know I sing, so a little bit about my background. Music and art have been my soul, my passion all my life, and I have heavily participated and have had rewarding experiences in both. My parents were both artists in New York, so my brother and I grew up in a creative environment with quite a bit of involvement in music and art through those years. In school, we were fortunate to have a strong art and music department. We had wonderful teachers in the arts that enriched students and inspired some of us to continue in those challenging areas.

In college, I was a voice performance major. In my adult years, some of the highlights have been singing for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus under the direction of Robert Shaw and other renowned conductors. It has been a fulfilling journey filled with learning, growth, and unforgettable experiences.

What makes Carnelian the “Singer’s Stone”?

Carnelian is believed to enhance creativity and boost confidence, making it a popular choice for singers, artists, and performers. The vibrant energy of carnelian is said to stimulate the sacral chakra, which is associated with creativity, inspiration, and self-expression allowing individuals to tap into their artistic talents with ease.

Music has the ability to evoke emotions, tell stories, and connect people from different backgrounds. Whether it's through singing, playing an instrument, or simply listening to a favorite song, music has the power to uplift, inspire, and heal. For singers like myself, the act of performing on stage and sharing our voices with the world is a deeply fulfilling experience. It allows us to communicate our emotions, connect with our audience, and create moments of beauty and joy.

As I continue on my musical and art journey, I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to share my voice and passion for music with others. The "Singer's Stone" may be just a myth, but the real magic lies in the music itself and the transformative power it holds.
